人才培育與學生指導｜Graduate Education and Student Development

本實驗室於2006至2026年間共指導88名學生，包括56名碩士生、21名博士生及11名大學專題生。博士生來自7個不同國家，國際學生占博士生比例相當高。本研究團隊已具備良好的國際聲譽與吸引力。多年來，本人不僅培育優秀研究人才，更建立一支長期認同臺灣、支持臺灣，並持續與臺灣保持研究合作的國際科研團隊，為提升臺灣國際科研能量與深化學術外交奠定重要基礎。

其指導模式涵蓋論文研讀、實驗規劃、野外採樣、儀器分析、數據解釋、模型建立、科學寫作、專利、創業及國際合作。

From 2006 to 2026, Professor Chen supervised a total of 88 students, including 56 master’s students, 18 doctoral students, and 10 undergraduate researchers. His doctoral students have come from seven countries, with international students comprising more than 80% of the doctoral cohort. These achievements reflect the research team’s strong international reputation and ability to attract talented researchers worldwide. Beyond cultivating outstanding research professionals, Professor Chen has established an international scientific team whose members maintain a long-term affinity for Taiwan, actively support Taiwan, and continue to collaborate with Taiwanese researchers. This enduring network has strengthened Taiwan’s global research capacity and provided a solid foundation for advancing international academic partnerships and science diplomacy.

Professor Chen’s comprehensive mentoring approach encompasses critical analysis of scientific literature, experimental design, field sampling, instrumental analysis, data interpretation, model development, scientific writing, patent development, entrepreneurship, and international research collaboration.

大學社會責任｜University Social Responsibility（USR）

陳建易教授研究團隊推動「科學都滾的耕心農業」USR計畫，將地球與環境科學帶入地方社區，結合蚯蚓養殖、蚓糞再利用、土壤健康、低碳農業、碳封存及環境教育，實踐永續農業與地方創生。

團隊利用蚯蚓將農業有機廢棄物轉化為富含養分與有益微生物的蚓糞，改善土壤結構、肥力及保水能力，減少化學肥料與廢棄物處理需求，建立農業資源循環利用模式。同時帶領青年與女性學生走入農村，透過科學調查、田間實作及社區合作，培養研究、跨領域合作與社會實踐能力，落實「以科學服務社會、以教育連結地方」的USR精神，並呼應SDGs 2、4、5、12、13及15。

Professor Chien-Yen Chen’s research group leads the “Cultivating Hearts through Science and Sustainable Agriculture” USR initiative. The program brings Earth and environmental sciences into local communities by integrating earthworm cultivation, vermicompost reuse, soil health, low-carbon agriculture, carbon sequestration, and environmental education.

Earthworms are used to transform agricultural organic waste into nutrient- and microbe-rich vermicompost, helping improve soil structure, fertility, and water retention while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and conventional waste treatment. Through scientific investigation, field practice, and community engagement, young and female students develop research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and social-practice skills. The initiative embodies the USR vision of “serving society through science and connecting communities through education” and contributes to SDGs 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, and 15.

飛魚之舟，記憶之海：達悟族造舟文化保存與國際學生體驗交流

Canoes of the Flying Fish, Seas of Memory: Preserving Tao Boatbuilding Culture through International Student Exchange

本計畫以蘭嶼達悟族拼板舟文化為核心，結合文化保存、海洋教育與國際學生體驗交流。透過部落耆老與在地工藝師的引導，學生認識拼板舟的選材、製作技術、文化圖騰、飛魚季及海洋信仰，理解傳統造舟智慧與島嶼環境之間的深厚連結。

國際學生藉由實地參訪、文化導覽與交流活動，體驗達悟族與海共生的生活方式。計畫不僅保存與傳承珍貴的海洋文化，也促進跨文化理解、尊重原住民族知識及地方永續發展，呼應SDGs 4、11、14及17。

This project focuses on the traditional plank-built canoe culture of the Tao people of Lanyu. Guided by community elders and local craftspeople, students learn about timber selection, boatbuilding techniques, cultural symbols, the flying fish season, and the close relationship between Indigenous knowledge and the marine environment.

Through field visits, cultural interpretation, and experiential exchange, international students gain an understanding of the Tao people’s ocean-based way of life. The program supports cultural preservation, intercultural understanding, respect for Indigenous knowledge, and sustainable community development while contributing to SDGs 4, 11, 14, and 17.
