Paleobotany & Paleoecology
The CCU Paleoenvironment lab is focusing on Taiwan vegetation and lake ecology reconstruction using pollen and diatom assemblages in lake sediments. It also focuses on wildfire reconstruction of the island, and studying the human settlement and how they interacted along with vegetation shift.

Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer
The laboratory is equipped with an EA-IRMS interface for measuring the carbon isotopic composition of different organic fractions in sediments. These include bulk organic matter, black carbon, and diatom-occluded organic matter, enabling high-precision analyses of carbon sources and cycling.

Gamma Ray Spectroscopy

Magentic Susceptibility Analyser
The laboratory houses a Magnetic Susceptibility Analyser used to rapidly and non-destructively characterize the magnetic mineral content of sediment samples, providing insights into sediment composition and environmental changes.
